During the last month of 2013, wholesale prices did
rise on an overall basis — a trend dealers experienced during most of last year
— but the spike was slight, and price movements for most segments were
negative.
After years of post-recession lows, the Canadian automotive market reached a new
record in 2013, according to analysis from the Canadian Automotive Dealers
Association released this week.
A lot has changed when it comes to new-vehicle
market share in Canada. The economic downturn, manufacturer bankruptcies,
product challenges and newcomers to the scene have shaken some of the grip that
big names have held on the market.
Late Thursday afternoon, Dealertrack Technologies
announced it has reached a deal to acquire Dealer.com. The companies entered a
definitive agreement, under which Dealertrack would purchase the entire equity
of Dealer.com for about 8.7 million shares of Dealertrack common stock and $620
million cash.
Cars took their place among discounted electronics
and holiday deals during the biggest shopping weekend of the year, but dealers
may not have actually seen many of these shoppers show up on the lots.
Late Thursday evening, ALG honored the brands that
ranked the highest for perception of value in Canada with Mercedes-Benz topping
the list. But the annual awards have a different face this year.
